About Ross

Ross Clarke-Jones is one of a kind. The legendary Australian was one of the pioneering big wave surfers and hit the headlines in 1998 when tow partner Tony Ray hauled him into a mammoth 80-90 foot swell at Outside Log Cabins in Hawaii. After catching some truly epic rides the session went down in infamy when the pair were caught out and pummelled by a 60-foot wave, knocking them both into the water and bringing about one of the most spine-chilling rescues in the sport’s history. That episode only strengthened RCJ’s resolve though and within three years he had become the first non-Hawaiian surfer to win the Eddie Aikau Big Wave contest at Waimea Bay, an event he still competes in today. When “Dark Bones” is not competing, he continues to chase gargantuan swells around the world in search of that perfect wave.
