The top 34 surfers have been selected for the 2012 surfing season, and it is a good mix of red hot professionals, old chargers and new blood. Kelly Slater is still on top, and Taylor Knox has squeaked back in, but it is a good mix.

Adriano de Souza has a good year and has maintained a top 10 finish to the year. Jordy Smith, despite his niggling injury sustained at Teahupo’o, still finished in 8th place, one slot behind Julian Wilson in 7th.
Michel Bourez also remained in the top ten after an excellent year on tour, coming in at tenth spot. Michel was a bit of a dark horse this year but his powerful surfing and brave approach in waves of consequence saw him garner many new fans.
Mick Fanning showed flashes of brilliance throughout the year, yet was sidelined at the end of the year with a bad neck injury, and couldn’t surf Pipe. He finished the year in 14th spot and will no doubt be a tad disappointed by it. Kolohe Andino is a new face in the top 34, and will be sure to turn some heads when the show gets under way next year.
Portuguese battler Tiago Pires has once again qualified, and also showed plenty of mettle on the tour this year, always looking for the big waves and not displaying any fear. Tiago is a never say die competitor who has a good track record against Slater.
