Rezonance are four-piece band who balance acoustic-rock with urban attitude. They were in studio some months back and recorded a three track EP. We chatted to them about their approach to all things music:
How long have you guys been playing together?
We’ve been playing together since about August 2010. However, the bands’ members have changed a few times, so Rezonance as it is now, has only been together for about 6/7 months.
Who makes up the band?
Rick van Zyl – Rhythm guitar & lead vocal. Brad Ellis – Beatboxer & supporting vocal/rap. Matt Dickinson – Lead Guitar. Zena Wood – Supporting vocal.
How would you describe the music you make / play?
Urban Acoustic. At the heart of it, it is acoustic music (similar to local guys Plush) but with our own spin on it, the Urban side (the beatboxing, rap etc).
What is your mission statement so to speak? What do you want to do with music?
Music is a central part of all our lives, and in the best case scenario, we would all love to earn a successful living from making music. At the moment however, as everyone is doing there own thing (Rick has begun work, Matt finishing his studies), we are all pursuing music individually. We will, in the near future, join up again and create more music and hopefully release stuff which people like and also hopefully enjoy success as a band.
Sum up, in a short statement, how you found the experience to be at the Red Bull Studio Cape Town?
Brilliant! First time for most of us to record in a professional studio environment and was an epic adventure. We already loved the brand, prior to recording there (our “manager” Dean worked as an SBM) so to record at the Red Bull Studio was right up our proverbial alley. Steve is awesome at what he does, and are stoked with what he did for us. Also, it’s always nice to be able to crack open a cold bull and have a smoke in the courtyard outside with the guys and girls.
