CLEVER TACTICS & EXCELLENT RIDING

Day 4 - 5th Red Bull Romaniacs hard enduro rally

A tour de force came to a triumphant end: at his very first start at the Red Bull Romaniacs Graham Jarvis (UK) finished the toughest enduro rally on the upper most podium! What has started as a battle of three on Saturday’s kick off prologue, resulted in the victory of Great Britain’s new enduro hero Graham Jarvis four off-road days later.

Pathfinder Gerhard Forster navigated his followers securely through the Romanian wilderness and finished second overall, third place was again awarded to Chris Birch from New Zealand. KTM factory rider Frans Verhoeven (NED) won the final stage.

33 year old Graham Jarvis (UK, Sherco) won the Red Bull Romaniacs 2008 at his first ever attempt with solid riding as well as a strategically perfect performance. Why navigating yourself, if you can follow a veteran Romaniacs rider and superb navigator.

This is Gerhard Forster (GER, BMW), who repeats his runner-up spot from 2007. Chris Birch (NZL, KTM) - physically groggy - on third also repeats his podium spot from last year.

Moreover, Jarvis is the first rider to win the Red Bull Romaniacs hard enduro rally on a four stroke bike and the first rider not to come from France.

Dutchman Frans Verhoeven (KTM) was on a mission today as he has been dogged by bad luck on the previous stages. For the major part of the last stage he stayed with the leaders, was fast enough to get ahead of the threesome and was the first rider to enter the “Crazy Bikers’ House” – a remain of dictator Ceaucescu – with the finish line on the very roof top of the unfinished house.

Leading the top riders of this fifth edition of the rally into the final finish in the very heart of Sibiu and winning the last stage propitiated him with the race.

Compared to the previous stages, this day was almost a walk in the park. A considerably shorter racetrack of about 117 kilometres helped to get the remaining bikers and their bikes to the finish line; however, hill climbs to K2 and “Wild Bear Mountain” in the deep forest could possibly louse the finish up for the contestants and even those, who were successful in the off-road competition still had to prove that they were also well prepared for the house-competition and, most importantly, have no heads for heights.

20 meters above ground level, rooftops, terraces, facades and in places where one cannot even imagine riding a motorbike, contestants were pushing their limits further and further to finally earn the title of “Red Bull Romaniacs Finisher 2008”!
