After stints in Berlin, New York, São Paulo, Cape Town, Melbourne and Barcelona, the Red Bull Music Academy is making its way to London for the first time, and promises to be amazing, with a full programme of events spread over the two workshop terms that run from February 7 to March 12.
There are events galore happening across the five weeks, with every shade of legendary represented. Among the line-ups, there are the likes of Soul II Soul, Goldie (pictured above), Heritage Orchestra, Carl Craig, Plaid, Moodymann, Roots Manuva, Matmos, Kevin Martin (The Bug), Mira Calix and Red Bull alumnus Flying Lotus performing and/or holding events, and DJ legends such as Don Letts, Scientist, David Rodigan, Soul Jazz Soundsystem and Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve along with young pups Horse Meat Disco hosting a rollerdisco night. The season takes in events at some of London’s iconic venues such as Royal Festival Hall, The ICA and Roundhouse. The line-up for the five weeks is still falling into place, so be sure to watch the website too so you can experience the whole panorama of one of the greatest cities and hotbeds of musical genius in the world.
The Music Academy itself will be based near London Bridge, where it will house a recording studio, lecture hall, radio station and eight bedroom-like studios. The Red Bull Music Academy is a yearly expedition into the heart of music, where legendary producers, arrangers and musicians share tales, swap numbers and let the listener in on the magic. Sixty young music-makers from around the world come together with the artists in whose footsteps they follow to swap wisdom, and to work on compositions in the Academy studios.
