While Xander Ferreira and Nick Matthews of Gazelle move around the world delivering their style of electro / afro pop like a Johnny Clegg for the new millennium (and that’s not a diss, because Mr. Clegg has made some moving music in his time), Yannick Ilunga and Terrence Pearce of Popskarr are crafting their sound back home, a homage to 80’s synth-pop and modern indie-inspired electronica.
The collaboration is a track called Obsession, and features towering verses and choruses dealing with a subject oh-so-common to young hearts: limerence. According to wikipedia, limerence is the involuntary cognitive and emotional state of intense romantic desire for another person, often not reciprocated. Which is essentially infatuation or unrequited love in layman’s terms, although the truly romantic might call it real love.
Psychiatric terminology aside, have a listen to the track and download if you like. Hopefully we’ll see young Yannik and Mr. Pearce heading over the ocean soon to join compatriots Gazelle soon in pushing the local electro sound whatever that may be.
