Sing ’it is an exciting songwriting competition presented by LitNet, in conjunction with Sanlam and MK. It provides a unique platform for anyone interested in becoming a songwriter. The concept behind Sing ’it is simple: contestants enter lyrics for some of South Africa’s top artists. Each band selects their favourite song, and each winning songwriter wins an iPad2 as well as R3 000 cash. All winning songs are available for free download, and the most downloaded song will receive a budget for a music video from MK. The writer of the song will also get the opportunity to appear in the video.
One of the groups chosen by MK are the powerhouse Drum n Bass duo of Niskerone and SFR. The two have been synonymous with quality and innovation in the DnB scene in SA and the world over for the better part of a decade.
The track they chose was "Magic" which was recorded at the Red Bull Studio Cape Town. Not a typical rinser, the song features Dubstep tempo classic DnB breaks and catchy lyrics overlaid with lush pads. Written by contestant Michelle Francis, they enlisted the the sublime vocal skills of Carla Louw, to help bring their track to life. Currently Niskerone & SFR are tied 2nd with around 450 downloads. The idea is that the track with the most downloads wins.
