After a day of mayhem and barrels yesterday, with the official press release saying, ‘Flawless Surf Makes History At Mr Price Pro Ballito', it was back to the beach for the final day. The waves were still looking good, with some excellent barrels and some very near-perfect scores coming through.
Jordy was up against Jesse Mendes from Brazil and won convincingly, while young Julian Wilson made short work of Heath Joske. There were barrels to be had, and Jordy pulled off some outrageous rail turns in the chunky sets, showing the gathered spectators why he is the best surfer in the country and one of the best in the world. Jesse was looking good in the beginning of their encounter, but Jordy turned it around in his favour.

After an absolute flurry of waves in the last quarter-final, Jordy paddled out for his semi-final against Pat Gudauskas and the ocean went quiet. The heat before saw 9-point rides and big barrels, and Jordy and Pat couldn’t buy a wave out there. After a few mediocre rides it was Pat who was in the lead by a nose, with Jordy chasing a 5-point ride. It was not to be, and the ocean went quiet again for the good part of 15 minutes as the two surfers sat and waited. The final exchange of waves between the two saw Pat come out slightly on top and Jordy out of the event. A somewhat lackluster heat for all concerned, but great for Pat, and a semi-final in a prime event is a great result for Jordy.

Julian Wilson was next up, and he had also been finding form all week at the Mr Price Pro Ballito. He had found an affinity with the break at Ballito and was finding the barrels. He came up against John John Florence and it was a very close heat that went John John’s way. It was Julian’s first time on Ballito, and he was extremely excited about his trip and the waves that the event produced.
So that’s it. Pat Gudauskas from San Clemente wins the event, and the surfing epicenter moves down the coast to Supertubes in Jeffrey’s Bay. Jordy is the defending champion and will no doubt be fired up after this event.
