This week sees the first of a regular series that the Red Bull Studio London kicked off initially: Mix Monday. The last Monday of every month we'll be bringing you an exclusive DJ mix, recorded at the Red Bull Studio, from prolific DJs in the scene and a guaranteed sonic snapshot of the best that clubland has to offer.
Our first mix is from Magnum HiFi, who is a fixture in the Cape-Tonian clubbing scene like a disco ball in the club. Hailing from Durban he has played a part in the insemination just about every left-of-centre jol, from underground Hip Hop to Electro and now Bass Music, and is always quick to travel the path that others eventually follow. In his own words:
"I have DJ'd for about a million years and started playing Hip Hop then moved down into Trip Hop's block and then found myself in Indie Dance's palace then strolled into the Electro Condo shortly meandering down to Nu Disco's House and then made my way into the Bassment. All of a sudden, I wake up in all these places everyday."
His submission for Mix Monday is a house / disco set that balances pure class with sweaty energy, something to listen to while cooking or get ready for the club, and ultimately a mix that just about every South African beat lover can get down to.
