Skating is about personal expression. A dozen people can do the exact same thing and it’ll look different every time. Part of that is their personal style, and the execution of that style is achieved through their equipment. We spoke to Khule Ngubane about his gear of choice.
KHULE NGUBANE
Khule is a very laid back, easygoing guy and it shows in his skating. Everything looks so effortless. Look out for him at the Durban qualifier at Wave House.

DESCRIBE YOUR SETUP
It has to be good for everything. I like skating stairs and if your trucks are too loose or tight it'll throw you off. So loose enough to give but not so loose as to let the wheels bite when you land.
WHAT MAKES IT WORK FOR YOU?
For shoes, Chas Ortiz wears these a lot which is why I tried them. When you put the Match on, they're super comfortable and you can start riding nice right from the start. You don't need to spend a lot of time breaking the shoe in like you sometimes do with others.
WHAT WOULD YOUR SIGNATURE BOARD LOOK LIKE?
I'd have a collage of things that represent me. I'd have a cross to represent my faith, music notes because i love my beats, maybe a saying like "Roll Forever" 'cos I love skateboarding. And my name, haha, don't forget that!
