The Goldfish duo of Dave Poole and Dom Peters are two surfers from Cape Town who happen to make music... yes, their music is internationally recognised and yes, the sell millions of albums but inherently they are surfer boys.

Include the fact that Jordy is a budding singer and karaoke star and the project almost formulates itself.

It's as simple as placing the three of them in the Red Bull Studio see what happens.

“The most impressive thing was that here was no apprehension from Jordy,’ said Goldfish’s Dom Peters. “He pulled into the studio, got behind the mic and jumped in. He’s clearly not afraid of trying something new. And invariably ends up doing it well because he’s not second-guessing himself, thinking too much or embarrassed by how he sounds. I think we can all learn from that mindset.”

“We were setting Jordy up in the vocal booth and none of us had any idea what he was going to sing yet,” said Dom. “As I handed him the headphones he threw away a line jokingly, ‘I’m flying stealth’ and I was like, ‘what was that?’”

And so, a song was born.

After some time in the studio, it was time for the crew to go ride. Cape Town had a good swell running and some freezing water swirling around. There were some long, peeling lefts coming through at a Sea Point reef break called Thermopylae, a 'long, powerful, left-breaking rollercoaster of a wave’ according to wannasurf.com, that breaks off the wreck of a Greek ship called, wait for it, the Thermopylae.

“That session was one of the best surfs I had had in ages,” said Goldfish’s Dave Poole. “I just stuck to Jordy, and I caught the next wave after him every time, as he was always in the sweet spot.”

Thermos is a tricky wave, but Jordy got it wired pretty quickly in the cold Atlantic water. He got barrelled on his backhand over the boiler of the wreck on one of his first waves, and blasted some big hacks and carves on one particular set wave. Otherwise he chilled with the locals on the relatively small take-off spot, listened to the wise cracks and banter from the regulars, and chatted to whoever wanted to talk to him. “Fun session,” was how he described it in typical Jordy understatement. “I got a couple.” In fact, fun could be a good way to describe Jordy and his life right now.

“It was pretty sick to hang with Goldfish,” said Jordy of the experience. “They’re cool guys. It was wild seeing what goes down in a recording studio. These guys have got skills.”

However, Goldfish appeared even more blown away by Jordy’s skills after one particular recording session.

So the track was created. It went something like this:

Flying Stealth

I’m flying stealth oh I’m flying stealth/

I got a quest to be one of the best/

I refuse to give up just like the rest/

Sorry I got to be gone for this long/

Thinking of family and friends keeps me strong.
