Caleb Williams is one of the best karters in South Africa. He has already won many races, including the Gauteng regional karting championship and getting 2nd place at the 2005 National Championship. He loves speed, is fearless and ambitious, and has his sights set on racing Formula 1 when he grows up.
How did you get interested in karting?
“I first rode a pee-wee mini cross bike at 3 ½ years. Then I broke my arm and we got rid of the bike. In 2000 (aged 6) I started karting in Cadette class. My Dad was racing Formula 100s and I wanted to have a go. In 2001 I won the Nationals in Cadette and moved up to Grand Prix Junior.” Since then Caleb has won the Regional Championships and last year came 2nd in the Mini Max Nationals.

What has been your personal best so far?
“The 2006 National championship opening win was a really big achievement, especially as I’m racing both classes. I do a race, have a short break and then start in the next class.”
How do you train?
“I go to gym, swim and lift weights. When you’re racing 25 laps at a time you need upper body strength and stamina.”
