Each band had their own stage and showcased their musical prowess guided by maestro & ‘musical referee’, DJ Ready D and hosts Elma Smit (MK) and Siya (Vuzu).
Warm Up – each band started with 3 of their own songs.
Round 1: The ‘Cover’ (creative round) – DJ Ready D cut in Eddy Grant’s Electric Avenue and the bands covered the track in their own style.
Round 2: The ‘Take Over’ (spontaneous round) – Gazelle and Die Heuwels Fantasties attempted to master each other’s tracks.
Round 3: The ‘Sound Clash’ (innovative round) - DJ Ready D chose hip hop, country, dubstep as the musical styles for this heat. He cut in a song for Gazelle to pick up, who were followed by Die Heuwels Fantasties who then tried to do it better. This ‘attack’ and ‘respond’ round was won by Die Heuwels Fantasties.
Round 4: The ‘Wild Card’ (mystery round) – Die Heuwels Fantasties and Gazelle then played one last song with their secret special guest in a last attempt to gain the crowd’s affection. The secret guests were Francois Van Coke (Van Coke Cartel) and Inge Beckmann respectively.
Massive respect to both bands who held their own on the night and performed like... well... rockstars.
