Dani Pedrosa scored crucial points at the MotoGP race in Estoril, and now, as he explains in his blog, he hopes to build on that and complete his recovery from injury to claim a deserved second place in the championship at the last race in Valencia.
Hi everyone,
It was a somewhat atypical weekend for Portugal. We had very changeable and adverse weather conditions, and in truth we had far fewer kilometres than usual for a grand prix weekend.
This didn’t really work out too well for me because, in my condition, the ideal is to be rolling from day one, to try to see how I’ll shape up in racing conditions. However, on Friday and Saturday we had little chance. Of course, for much of the session I was among the frontrunners, and I found a pretty good rhythm and felt good.
However, after that and during the race were when I finally realised what I needed, and how hard I would have to push in the last 10 laps. I’d have had to endure too much pain to maintain the physical strength I needed… I couldn’t brake late, at a circuit where this is important, and in the end I lost several positions. I couldn’t do more.
'With rain come other attendant risks…'
Perhaps the rain, present on a regular basis throughout the rest of the weekend, would have lessened the demands on and I could have held my position more, but with rain come other attendant risks anyway, and now, more than at any other time, I have to think about that. We have taken points, and now have to think about Valencia, so let’s see how we get on there.
Looking at the positives, this race has shown how I actually am on the bike, and hopefully in Cheste I can achieve something better. It will be tough, but we will try to grab important points there, to defend the runner-up place from Valentino Rossi, who is my main rival now.
I know that things always turn out well in the end. You send me encouragement to continue recovering… Thank you for that support, because it is very important in pushing me on to succeed!
Also, I must say congratulations to Marc Márquez on the great race yesterday, and now I hope he can top it in Cheste. I don’t think I need to point out what a great rider he is, and he’ll know now to concentrate on finishing the season in style in Valencia, as he deserves. Good luck, Marc!
Hope to see you all in Cheste.
Hugs
